Connect Slack and Telegram Alerts

Connect Slack or Telegram to receive Siteligent alerts for website downtime, backup failures, security issues, updates, and other important events.

Written by Surya

Siteligent can send notifications to Slack and Telegram so your team can respond to important website events without relying only on email. Email remains useful as an archive, while Slack and Telegram can deliver alerts directly to your desktop or phone.

Connect Slack Notifications

Siteligent uses Slack's native Incoming Webhooks to send alerts to a specific Slack channel.

Step 1: Create a Slack Webhook

  1. Sign in to Slack and open the Slack API Directory, or go to Your Apps → Create New App.

  2. Create a custom app and enable Incoming Webhooks.

  3. Click Add New Webhook to Workspace.

  4. Select the Slack channel where you want Siteligent notifications to appear, such as #web-ops or #alerts.

  5. Click Authorize.

  6. Copy the generated Webhook URL. It will look similar to:
    https://hooks.slack.com/services/...

Keep the webhook URL private. Anyone who has it may be able to send messages through that webhook.

Step 2: Add the Webhook to Siteligent

In Siteligent:

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications → Slack Integration.

  2. Click Add Slack Configuration.

  3. Paste the Slack Webhook URL.

  4. Give the configuration a descriptive name, such as Operations Channel.

  5. Click Save.

Step 3: Send a Test Notification

After saving the configuration, click Send Test Message next to it. Siteligent will send a test card to the selected Slack channel so you can confirm that the integration is working correctly.

If the test message arrives successfully, Slack is ready to receive Siteligent notifications.

Connect Telegram Notifications

There are two ways to receive Siteligent alerts:

  1. Siteligent Bot - the recommended easiest option. There is no bot setup or token required. Open the Siteligent Bot and connect it to your account.

  2. Your Own Bot - create and manage your own Telegram bot using BotFather, then connect it to Siteligent with your Bot Token and Chat ID.

Both options let Siteligent deliver website alerts directly to Telegram.

Option 1: Connect the Siteligent Bot

The Siteligent Bot is the easiest way to get started. It is the recommended option because there is no need to create a Telegram bot, copy API tokens, or find your Chat ID.

Connect the Siteligent Bot

  1. Open Telegram Integration under Notification settings.

  2. Under the Siteligent bot tab, click Generate connection code.

  3. Siteligent will generate a unique connection code.

  4. Open Telegram and start a conversation with @siteligent_alerts_bot.

  5. Send the connection code to the bot.

  6. Siteligent automatically confirms the connection.

Once connected, Siteligent shows the bot as Connected and lets you choose which notifications should be delivered to that chat.

Choose a Notification Mode

The Siteligent Bot provides three notification modes:

Critical only - Recommended: Sends alerts that require immediate attention, including:

  • Site downtime

  • Backup failures

  • Security threats

  • SSL certificate expiry

  • Domain expiry

  • Connection lost alerts

This is a good default if you want Telegram to stay focused on important incidents.

Balanced: Includes the critical alerts above, along with plugin and theme update notifications.

All alerts: Sends every available alert type, including:

  • Site uptime and downtime

  • Backup failures

  • Security alerts

  • SSL expiry

  • Domain expiry

  • Plugin and theme updates

  • Performance alerts

  • System notifications

  • Task activity

  • Support activity

  • Site transfers

  • Connection lost alerts

You can change the notification mode later if you want more or fewer alerts.

Option 2: Connect Your Own Telegram Bot

If you prefer to manage your own Telegram bot, use the Your own bot option.

This method requires:

  • A Telegram Bot Token

  • The Chat ID where Siteligent should send notifications

Step 1: Create Your Telegram Bot

  1. Open Telegram and search for the official @BotFather bot.

  2. Click Start.

  3. Send /newbot.

  4. Follow the prompts to give your bot a name.

  5. Choose a unique username ending in bot, such as MySiteligentAlertsBot.

  6. BotFather will provide an HTTP API Bot Token.

  7. Copy the token and keep it private.

  8. Open your new bot and click Start.

Step 2: Find Your Chat ID

Siteligent needs the numeric Chat ID of the Telegram destination where alerts should be delivered.

For a personal Telegram chat, you can use a helper bot such as @userinfobot to find your Chat ID. For a group, use the group's Chat ID. Group IDs are typically negative numbers, such as:

-100123456789

The Siteligent Bot itself must also have access to the destination where you want it to send alerts.

Step 3: Add Your Bot to Siteligent

In Siteligent:

  1. Open Telegram under your notification settings.

  2. Select Your own bot.

  3. Enter a Label for the configuration, such as Ops team alerts.

  4. Enter your Bot Token.

  5. Enter the Chat ID.

  6. Click Verify & connect.

Siteligent will verify the bot connection before allowing the configuration to be activated.

Step 4: Choose Your Notification Mode

After connecting your own bot, choose what should be sent to that Telegram chat.

You can select:

  • Critical only - downtime, backup failures, security threats, SSL expiry, domain expiry, and connection lost alerts.

  • Balanced - critical alerts plus plugin and theme updates.

  • All alerts - every supported alert, including performance, system, tasks, support, and site transfer activity.

The Critical only mode is recommended if you want Telegram to remain focused on alerts that need immediate attention.

Which Telegram Option Should I Use?

For most teams, use the Siteligent Bot. It removes the need to create and maintain a separate Telegram bot and is the fastest way to start receiving alerts.

Use Your own bot when you specifically want to manage the Telegram bot yourself or need a separate bot identity for your team's notification setup.

Important: These Are Two Separate Connections

The two options are independent:

  • Siteligent Bot: no Bot Token or Chat ID setup; connect through the Siteligent Bot.

  • Your own bot: you provide your own Bot Token and Chat ID.

You don't need to configure both. Choose the option that best fits how your team wants to receive Telegram notifications.

Which Should You Use?

You can connect either Slack or Telegram, or use both depending on how your team handles alerts.

  • Slack works well when your team already manages website operations through dedicated channels such as an operations or alerts channel.

  • Telegram is useful when you want alerts delivered directly to a mobile chat, particularly for high-priority events.

After connecting the channels, you can configure which Siteligent events should be sent through each notification channel in your notification preferences.
