Understanding the Siteligent Connector

Understand how the Siteligent Connector connects your WordPress site to Siteligent and handles website-side operations in the background.

Written by Surya

The Siteligent Connector is the WordPress plugin that securely connects your website to the Siteligent platform. Once installed and connected, the Connector acts as a bridge between your WordPress site and your Siteligent dashboard.

It allows Siteligent to communicate with your website, perform supported management tasks, and retrieve the information needed for monitoring and maintenance.

How the Connector Works

The Connector runs directly on your WordPress website and handles website-side operations when you use Siteligent.

The basic connection works like this: Your WordPress Website → Siteligent Connector → Secure Connection → Siteligent

When you perform an action from the Siteligent dashboard, the Connector receives the authorized request, performs the required operation on your WordPress site, and sends the result back to Siteligent.

Security

The Connector is designed so that you don't need to provide Siteligent with your WordPress administrator password, FTP credentials, or SSH credentials.

Communication between your website and Siteligent uses the authentication established when you connect your site.

Each request sent through the connection is validated by the Connector before the requested action is performed. This helps prevent unauthorized requests from being executed on your website.

  • What the Connector Does: The Connector handles a number of operations locally on your WordPress installation.

  • Backup Preparation: When you run or schedule a backup, the Connector prepares the required website files and database data so they can be transferred to the configured backup storage.

  • Plugin Rollbacks: When a supported plugin update needs to be rolled back, the Connector can reinstall the previous plugin version using the available release information.

  • PHP Error Monitoring: The Connector can collect relevant PHP warnings, notices, and fatal errors from your website and make them available through the PHP Error Monitor in your Siteligent dashboard.

What You Don't Need to Do

Once the Connector has been installed and connected, it works in the background. You don't need to manually run the Connector or keep another application open on your computer.

You can manage supported tasks from your Siteligent dashboard while the Connector handles the website-side operations.

Keeping the Connector Active

For Siteligent to continue managing and monitoring your website, the Siteligent Connector should remain installed and active.

If the Connector is deactivated or removed, Siteligent may no longer be able to communicate with your website or perform features that depend on the connection. If your site shows as disconnected after changing the Connector or your WordPress configuration, see Troubleshooting Site Connection Issues.
