Running an On-Demand Backup

Create a full, database-only, or files-only backup whenever you need a fresh restore point before making changes to your website.

Automated backups keep your website protected on a regular schedule, but there are times when you may want to create a backup immediately.

An on-demand backup is useful when you're about to make a significant change to your website and want a fresh restore point before you begin.

When Should You Run an On-Demand Backup?

Consider creating a backup before:

  • Updating WordPress core, plugins, or themes

  • Installing a new plugin

  • Adding or changing custom code

  • Importing or deleting a large amount of content

  • Making significant changes to your website

  • Starting a website migration

  • Moving your website to a different hosting provider

Creating a backup before a major change gives you a recent version of your website that you can restore if something doesn't go as planned.

How to Run a Backup

  1. Open your website from the Siteligent Dashboard.

  2. Select a Site and click Backups.

  3. Click Create Backup.

  4. Choose the type of backup you want to create:

    • Full Backup - Includes your website files and database.

    • Database Only - Backs up your WordPress database without the website files.

    • Files Only - Backs up your website files without the database.

  5. Click Create Backup.

Siteligent will start creating the backup and show the progress while the process is running.

Checking the Backup Progress

While the backup is being created, Siteligent displays its current progress.

Depending on the backup type and the size of your website, the process may include steps such as preparing files, processing the database, creating the backup archive, and uploading the completed backup.

You can leave the page while the backup is running. The backup continues processing in the background.

After the Backup Is Complete

Once the backup finishes, you can find it under Backups in your site's dashboard.

It's a good idea to check that the backup completed successfully before making the change you were preparing for.

You can also use the backup later if you need to restore your website.
