A migration isn't finished when the files and database have been transferred. Once Siteligent reports that the migration is complete, use this checklist to make sure your new environment is correctly configured and your website is working as expected.
1. Update Your DNS Records
Point your domain to the new hosting environment.
Log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider.
Update the domain's A record to the public IP address of the new server.
Update any CNAME records used by your site or subdomains.
Allow time for DNS changes to propagate.
DNS propagation can take a few minutes, but depending on your TTL settings, some users may continue reaching the previous server for longer.
2. Check Your SSL Certificate
Make sure the new hosting environment has a valid SSL certificate for your domain. If SSL hasn't been configured correctly, visitors may see certificate or security warnings when accessing the migrated site.
3. Clear Your Website Caches
Clear your site's caches after the migration. In Siteligent's Cache manager, select Clear All Caches. This helps ensure that old cached content isn't being served after the move.
4. Run a Security Scan
Run a manual Security Scan from Siteligent. This gives you a quick check that the files and WordPress environment on the new server aren't showing unexpected security issues after the migration.
5. Check PHP Errors
Open the PHP Error Monitor and check for new errors or compatibility warnings. This is especially important if the new hosting environment uses a different PHP version. Errors that weren't present on the previous server can indicate a plugin, theme, or configuration compatibility issue.
6. Check for Broken Links
Run a Broken Link Checker scan after the migration. This is particularly useful when you've also changed the domain, as it can identify links that still point to the old URL or other references that weren't updated correctly.
7. Confirm Your Backups
Your existing Siteligent backup history is tied to your Site ID and Team, rather than the physical server IP. Your previous backup history, cloud archives, and manual backups therefore remain available after the migration.
Once the Siteligent Connector is connected and stable on the new server, confirm that your automated backup schedule is running normally again.
8. Check the Site Yourself
Finally, browse the website as a visitor and test the important parts of the site.
Check things such as:
Homepage and main pages
Navigation and internal links
Images and media
Contact forms
Login and account areas
Important plugins and integrations
Any site-specific functionality
If you migrated to a new domain, pay particular attention to links, media URLs, and embedded content.
If Something isn't Working
If you find an issue after the migration, don't immediately start changing multiple things at once.
First identify whether the problem is related to:
DNS or SSL
Caching
PHP compatibility
Plugin or theme errors
Broken URLs
Server configuration
A blocked Siteligent REST endpoint
For migration failures involving memory, PHP timeouts, missing ZipArchive, or REST API blocks, see Troubleshooting Migration Issues.
